Padel Glossary
Injury terms, training concepts, and padel-specific language explained clearly for players at every level.
Explore injuriesYou know the feeling — you’re reading about an injury or training concept and the terminology loses you halfway through. Most players don’t realise how much understanding the language of padel medicine and technique accelerates their ability to train and recover intelligently. We’ve been through it. What actually works is knowing what the words mean before the physio appointment.
In short: this glossary covers padel injury terms, technique vocabulary, and training concepts explained in plain language. Use it as a reference when reading any guide on this site.
Padel has its own vocabulary — borrowed from tennis, adapted from Spanish padel culture, and overlapping with sports medicine terminology. This glossary is your reference for injury terms, technical concepts, and the language you’ll encounter when researching padel performance and recovery.

What is padel elbow (epicondylitis)?
Padel elbow is lateral epicondylitis — inflammation of the tendons that attach the forearm muscles to the outer elbow. It’s caused by the repetitive wrist extension and forearm rotation in padel shots, particularly the backhand and smash. It’s the same condition as tennis elbow, renamed for the sport. See our full padel elbow guide for diagnosis and treatment.
What is a bandeja in padel?
The bandeja is one of padel’s signature overhead shots — a controlled, flat smash played when the ball is too close to the back wall for a full smash. Hit with a continental grip, the racket face stays open and the ball is directed at an angle, keeping it low and preventing the opponent from returning aggressively. Poor bandeja technique is a common cause of shoulder strain.
What does “recovers well” mean in padel injury terms?
“Recovers well” (buena recuperación in Spanish padel medicine) refers to an injury that responds predictably to rest, physiotherapy, and load management — meaning you can expect full return to play within a defined window. It’s the opposite of a chronic or recalcitrant injury that resists standard treatment.
